Sinangag Express

Sinangag Express has always been one of our favorite eateries.  Though it does not offer a wide variety of food it still captured the “stomach” of many Filipinos.  It is like an upgraded “tapsihan” with better arrangements of its chairs and tables.

For some, they would probably choose other Fastfood restaurants since the serving in Sinangag Express is really not enough for those who eat more than one cup of rice or who are “viand lovers”.  But the good thing about this eatery is that most of their foods are really appetizing.  I, for example, could eat two servings or order two meals.

This is why my friends and I would always make it a point to treat ourselves with the good taste of their meals whenever there is a chance to. We ride a jeepney or take a cab even on rainy days just to eat their “tapsis”. Just like this weekend, it was really raining so hard but it never stopped us in coming over to Sinangag Express.  We saw that there were also other people who did not saw the rain as a hindrance in going to this place. We have already finished dining but the shower never stopped.  The guard was helpful to hail a taxi for us.  He did not care if he is already getting wet (though he had an umbrella with him).  This is one of the good things about this place – most of the crews are accommodating.

Though it is not air-conditioned (I am not sure about the other branches) it is still a relaxing place to dine in.  It has good ventilation since it is an open door restaurant but “smokes” from vehicles are manageable since it is not located in the main street (what difference would it make if you are used to eating in carinderias and “fishball-ans”?).

For me and my friends, Sinangag Express would always remain as our “City Weekend Getaway” - away from our office, away from burgers and “fast food chickens”.

Lunch with Deanne at New Orleans Cafe

August 24, 2012

Rendering almost the 12th hour of my shift, I was really looking forward to eating in a place I have not yet visited in Davao.

I let Deanne decide where she would like to take lunch and she suggested that we eat at New Orleans Café located at RNC Bldg, Bajada.

We just had a few orders but we left the café really full.

Here are what we ate:

and these were happily consumed in this very relaxing ambiance:

I will definitely dine again in New Orleans to experience the other food that they are offering.

See you again in Davao!

Army Navy's Burritoful World!

Craving for an ice cream at past  1am is really an odd feeling until we found ourselves driving along Tomas Morato looking for a restaurant which serves ice cream.  As we go along, our cravings leveled up to pastas, nachos and then we saw…. Army Navy!

We ordered only a few from Army Navy.  I had Breakfast Burrito (steak).

Pips ordered for Starving Sailor.  It is an 8-inch Sourdough bread with thinly sliced Rib Eye Steak, green bell pepper, caramelized onions and Jalapeno-cheese spread.
While, Zel only had Tortilla Chips.  She’s probably on a diet? Well, I don’t know (I would have to ask her tonight--- I didn’t thought of asking her at that time because I was so excited about my Burrito). Looking at my Burrito, I know I can follow Army Navy’s order--- “At Ease! Enjoy your meal”

Nothing more to say but I certainly enjoyed every bite of my Burrito.  It was filled with meat, scrambled egg, cilantro and toasted hash brown.  These and the salsa gave me something to look forward to in each of my bite.

To push the bites down to our stomachs, the three of us all had their freshly brewed Iced Tea, which they call LiberTea.

Army Navy --- your mission was accomplished! “Come in hungry.  Walk out Happy”.

To know if they can fulfill the order follow the bunker at www.armynavyburgerburrito.com.

Let us return to the barracks one of these days!

Leoning's Part 1

Finding somewhere to chill yesterday after our lunch, my friends and I thought of going to the mall so we could not feel the heat of the summer.  At about past four in the afternoon, we knew that our tummies are still full from our lunch.  We had Nilagang Baboy cooked by Chelle’s mom, Inihaw na Bangus which we bought from Pixies and Tuyong Tawilis which is also part of the prepared food by Mommy Beck.

But we wanted something cold to eat to relieve us from the hot weather. Chelle suggested to buy  Mais con Yelo or Saba con Yelo nearby but we wanted to go to a colder place and we thought of going to the mall, McDonald’s, Iceberg or Razon’s.  There were lots of choices but in the end we decided to go Leoning’s.
Leoning’s offer a variety of choices.

They have native foods such as Puto, Kutchinta, Sapin-Sapin, Bibingka and Maja Blanca which can be bought in slices or in Bilao (winnowing basket).

They also have other Filipino foods like Okoy, Tokwa’t Baboy and Crispy Pork Binagoongan.

We ordered Fresh Lumpia, Palabok Halo-Halo and one of the classic Filipino food which should always come in pair ---Dinuguan (Pork Blood Stew) and Puto (Filipino steamed cake).

Palabok
The taste of Dinuguan was exactly the way I want it.  It had a good sourness in it which  is why I love it.

Our decision coming over to Leoning’s was a good one. We were able to enjoy the food and were alleviated from the heat.  We shall be back in Leoning's that is for sure! Thumbs up!!!!

Sweet Inspirations - A Cafe to Visit

Coming from my graveyard shift today, I met up with two of my friends to have brunch.  This was actually a post birthday surprise treat for Joseph and a remote advanced celebration fo our friend Nes who is in the US.

Chelle suggested that we go to a place called Sweet Inspirations. We took a cab going to this resto which you could find at 311 Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Before we went to this establishment, I visualized that it is more of a Bakeshop similar to Red Ribbon or Goldilocks. However, I was quite surprised when we entered the Cafe. The food was not only limited to pastries and sweets but I saw that most of the customers were eating rice.  Other than the variety of food which makes it a good place to eat, I also find the ambiance calm and relaxing inspite of it being filled with people.

Though it was a very quite place, I did not actually felt sleepy.  On the contrary, I felt excited in the dining experience that I was about to go through especially when my eyes laid on one area where it says "Eat all you can Mongolian Buffet" which only costs Php310.00.

The three of us took turns in preparing our own mix of Mongolian Rice Bowls.  This buffet corner has the following choices:    FOR THE SAUCES: Ginger Water, Garlic Water, Lemon Water, Corn Oil, Sesame Oil, Chili Paste, Soy Sauce, Schezuan Sauce, Mongolian Sauce (of course!), Teriyaki Sauce.  FOR THE MEATS:  Beef, Chicken, Pork, Squid (my favorite!!!), Chicken Liver (bgs a very good taste to the mix) and Squid Balls.  VEGETABLES and other ingredients:  Chinese Cabbage, Carrots, Bean Sprouts, Bell Pepper, Singkamas, Tomatoes, Onion, Garlc, Ginger, Chili Pepper, Tofu, Sesame Seeds, Peanuts, Sotanghon and Rice.

Our freshly cooked and served hot mixed bowls were partnered with bottomless Iced Tea.  Joseph and Chelle had two servings of the rice mix.  The three of us also shared a piece of cake which we really enjoyed --- peach mango torte.  The sweetness of this dessert was just right for us.
Sweet Inspirations also serves soups and appetizers, breakfast, salads and sandwiches, pastas, pinoy merienda (Bibingka and Puto-bumbong), pies and pastries.

The Cafe is also a wi-fi zone which you can enjoy while taking pleasure in eating your delicious meals. They also offer Full Mongolian Catering (eat all you can).  You may contact them at 433-42-00 for your inquiries or visit http://www.cafesweet.com
